Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Symptoms

Common symptoms of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, or AATD, include:

Many people with AATD are at first diagnosed with asthma. This is because one of the main symptoms of asthma — wheezing — is also often a symptom of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.

Other symptoms of AAT deficiency include:

  • Repeated lung infections
  • Chronic cough
  • Tiredness
  • Rapid heartbeat when you stand up
  • Weight loss
