The primary treatment offered by Temple’s lung transplantation program is lung transplant surgery. This involves removing a damaged lung and replacing it with a healthy lung from a deceased donor. However, supportive services are also offered for patients either before or after transplant, such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy, which can serve as a bridge to lung transplant, providing more time for patients who are unable to tolerate mechanical ventilation. The Temple Lung Center also offers nutritional therapy and physical therapy to assist patients in their recovery following transplant. Patients at Temple Lung Center also have access to support groups, which provide valuable emotional support.
