Patients in Temple's COPD Program are evaluated and treated by a multi-disciplinary team which includes include pulmonologists, pulmonary rehabilitation specialists, surgeons, smoking cessation specialists, cardiologists, oncologists, and others. Temple’s COPD team looks at each COPD patient as a whole, and then creates an approach for treatment that is tailored to each patient’s specific illness.
At Temple Lung Center, the specialists at the COPD Program prioritize educating COPD patients about their disease, so that they can be empowered to make good choices for the management and treatment of their condition. Patients in Temple’s COPD Program have access to a full slate of educational events, smoking cessation assistance, and support groups. These resources can support patients’ emotional health, along with helping patients better understand their disease, treatment options, and prognosis.
Physicians at Temple Lung Center are experienced in providing a wide variety of treatments for COPD, from pulmonary rehabilitation to simple bronchodilators, to lung volume reduction surgery. Temple Lung Center is also a leading center for COPD research, and is involved in a high volume of clinical trials on an ongoing basis. Almost every COPD patient at Temple is eligible for at least one clinical trial. The Temple COPD Program is involved with many ongoing trials, studying medications, devices, and techniques for treating COPD.
